Biology

A minor in biology is earned by completing 8 credit hours of required biology courses including the introductory general biology lecture and lab courses, plus two more courses with at least one lecture and lab combinations selected from advanced courses.

Biomedical Sciences

The Biomedical Sciences minor is designed for undergraduate students who wish to complete science courses generally required of applicants to medical school and other health professional schools, while completing a bachelor’s degree in a non-science major.

Deaf Studies

Deaf Studies Program provides several options for students to pursue their love of sign language and the Deaf culture. The Deaf Studies Program incorporates sign language classes along with studies related to the intriguing culture of the Deaf.

Health Administration

The Minor in Health Administration provides students with a strong foundation in the business and non-clinical aspects of healthcare. Designed for students interested in applying their major course work in healthcare, this program enhances their ability to understand healthcare operations, public and population health. Graduates with this minor will be well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to healthcare organizations, improving efficiency, access, and quality of care.

Health, Ethics and Spirituality

In response to Xavier’s opportunities for inter- and trans-disciplinary engagement and collaboration, particularly with University partners in the health sciences and allied field, we are excited to introduce a new theology minor to engage students at the intersections of spirituality, ethics, and the health sciences.

Pre-Physical Therapy

The Pre-Physical Therapy minor is a 44–46 credit preparatory program designed for students planning to pursue graduate study in physical therapy. The curriculum builds a strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, physics, exercise physiology, statistics, psychology, and sociology. Students develop the scientific knowledge and analytical skills required for admission to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs and related health professions.

Psychology

The minor in psychology is based on the American Psychological Association standards that recommend students in psychology have competence in four areas: Biological bases of behavior (e.g., physiological, comparative psychology), Cognitive/Affective basis of behavior (e.g., learning, memory, perception, cognition, thinking, motivation, emotion), Social basis of behavior (e.g., social psychology, sex roles, organizational and systems theory), and individual behavior (e.g., personality theory, developmental, abnormal).

Social Work

The social work minor is strongly congruent with Xavier University's Jesuit mission and values through its emphasis on the "whole person" and solidarity. A social work minor helps students analyze and address some of the most complex social issues of contemporary society through a lens that examines values, oppression, privilege, poverty, abuse, and social justice at individual, family, group, organization, and community levels by advocating for empowerment and social change.

Addiction Counseling Certificate

The Addiction Counseling Certificate at Xavier University is a 100% online program that prepares students to assess, treat, and support individuals and families affected by addiction. The 15-credit program combines evidence-based coursework with a supervised practicum to build practical counseling skills. Graduates meet the academic requirements for the Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) credential in Ohio.

Biomedical Studies Certificate

The Biomedical Studies Certificate is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree and want to complete the science prerequisites required for admission to health professional schools such as medical, dental, PA, optometry, or veterinary programs. The program provides foundational coursework in biology, chemistry, and related sciences to strengthen academic preparation for graduate-level health professions education.

Ethics Certificate

The Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice (ISSJ) Certificates at Xavier University are 9-credit programs designed to deepen understanding of theology, spirituality, and social justice. Students can choose from areas such as Biblical Studies, Ethics, Pastoral Care, and Spirituality, combining academic study with experiential learning and spiritual formation. Delivered fully online and asynchronously, the program focuses on academic and behavioral interventions that support student success. Students can complete the certificate in about two semesters.

The Post-Baccalaureate Neurodiversity Certificate at Xavier University is a 100% online, 9-credit program designed for educators, HR professionals, and advocates. The program equips students with the knowledge and skills to create inclusive environments that support neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, in classrooms, workplaces, and communities.
