Admission

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Applicants are notified of the admission decision as soon as possible.

Applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Neurodiversity must meet the following requirements:

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree
  • Free Online Application
  • Official Transcript
    • One official transcript directly from all colleges or universities that you have attended for any undergraduate and graduate course work. Applicants must have a degree from a regionally accredited university. Send transcripts to:

  • Personal Essay (if needed)
    • If students choose to apply coursework to the MED or MS in Special Education degree program, a personal statement essay is required for admission.

Due to state regulations regarding the delivery of distance education, as well as requirements of each individual state board of nursing, Xavier is not currently able to accept applications from all states into all of its online programs.

Curriculum (9 credit hours)

Our 9 credit hour Criminal Justice Administration Certificate is designed to fit the schedule of working professionals while ensuring you meet the highest academic standards.
This course will cover the spectrum of human cognition and offers a foundational understanding of neurodiversity and its implications in various contexts. Key neurodivergent conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and more will be examined within neurological, psychological, and social dimensions.

This course addresses Teambuilding. Teambuilding covers Team Purpose, Stages of Team Development, Team Member Roles, Team Communication, Team Processes, and Team Leadership. More specifically, this course will look at the following: the issues and practices concerning family systems and role of family; models and strategies for consultation and collaboration; effective communication with families, school personnel; and, professional ethics, responsibilities and confidentiality.

Learning Leaders experience self-assessment and interpersonal skills needed for teaming and collaboration in educational settings with parents, teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and other specialists covering all exceptionalities and cultural settings as well as role playing, and small group practices in teaming and collaboration. Required field experience in diverse settings – 5 hours.

Choose one of the following two courses:

  • EDSP 560: Mild/Moderate Characteristics & Strategies: This course is designed to provide the candidates with a basic knowledge of mild to moderate disabilities. The course focuses on definitions and diversity in characteristics (including perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, academic, and social/emotional qualities) for individuals with mild to moderate disabilities as well as the major past and present educational and legal issues relevant to those individuals. Required field experience in diverse settings – 6 hours.
  • EDSP 615: Special Education Law: Students will learn federal and state laws, along with case law regarding the education of students with special needs. This course is for special education teachers, regular education teachers and administrators.
