Digital Accessibility Compliance Hub
This hub serves as a centralized resource for aligning Xavier’s web content with the HHS Section 504 and DOG Title II final rules.
Xavier University is committed to providing a digitally accessible experience. We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. While we work towards remediation by May 11, 2026, we have prioritized three critical areas: website accessibility, course content accessibility, and accessible procurement of digital technologies. Users may encounter legacy content or third-party tools that are currently being updated.
Compliance Roadmap: Xavier's Phased Approach
Phase I: Inventory – Identify all public-facing websites, student portals, and digital services. Prioritize ‘Tier 1’ areas such as admissions, financial aid, and health services for immediate remediation. (In progress)
Phase II: Remediation and Advising – Remediate high-impact barriers. Audit legacy PDF files and archive content no longer in active use to reduce institutional risk. (In progress)
Phase III: Integrated Risk Management – Implement mandatory Digital Accessibility Standards for all new third-party vendor contracts (completed January 2025).
| Requirement Area | Institutional Action |
|---|---|
| Web Content | Continuous automated and manual auditing (weekly). |
| Documents (PDF) | Remediate active forms; provide alternative formats upon request. |
| Multimedia | Required for all public-facing and instructional video content. |
| Procurement | VPAT compliance review for all software and vendors must comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards before contract approval. |
