Dean of Students Office

Fall 2019

What happened – Vandalism of campus property [Closed pending new information]

The Dean of Students received two reports of stickers advertising a national white supremacist, Neo-Nazi organization on lampposts, signs, and emergency call phones in the Cintas Center area.  The stickers included a slogan, the group’s website address, and an iconographic drawing.  Xavier Police and Physical Plant removed the stickers and other evidence; XUPD is investigating the vandalism.  Anyone who may have information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Dean of Students office.

How has the Bias Advisory Response Team Responded?

BART was informed of the incident and determined that it meets the University’s definition of a bias incident due to the nature of the white supremacist group’s views and the proximity of the vandalism to the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah.  BART has alerted Residence Life and campus counseling services to the incident and asked these offices to provide support to affected students as necessary.

What happened - Residence Hall Vandalism [Closed pending new information]

The Dean of Students office received a report of vandalism in a residence hall room.  The reported vandalism included written statements on a whiteboard and other items in the room.  The statements included comments that were perceived as sexist and anti-Semitic.  Residence Life followed up with all involved students to gather additional information.  The responsible individual was not able to be identified.

What happened - Offensive Costume Reported [Closed and resolved]

The Dean of Students office received a report of a student wearing a costume at an off-campus event that was perceived to demonstrate racial and disability bias.  The individual was wearing a costume that was intended to represent a cartoon character.  The costume included brown face paint and a chair apparently meant to represent a wheelchair.  The Dean of Students office facilitated resolution to this matter.
