Osteopathic Medicine, D.O. Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program are as follows:
Completion of a Bachelor's Degree
- Must be nationally or regionally accredited
- 90 Credit hours or three quarters of a bachelor's degree must be completed prior to applying to XUCOM.
- Transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted through AACOMAS. If coursework is international, a WES or credit equivalency service must be provided.
- All candidates must have a conferred bachelor’s degree by time of matriculation, and all final transcripts must be sent to XUCOM to confirm completion.
Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
- XUCOM requires all applicants to provide an up-to-date MCAT core before application can be evaluated.
- Only MCAT scores taken no more than 3 years prior to date of matriculation will be accepted (2024 for matriculating class of 2027)
- January MCAT scores are acceptable for admission to XUCOM.
Letters of Recommendation
- XUCOM Requires two (2) letters of recommendation with a required letter from a physician preferably from an Osteopathic physician and another from a pre-health committee or Science Faculty (PhD)
- Letters can be sent electronically through AACOMAS or Interfolio
- All letters must have an official letterhead or signature
- Letters cannot be written by a relative or colleague of relative
Shadowing and Clinical Experience
- XUCOM highly values hands on patient care experience. Competitive candidates have a combination of shadowing and clinical experience, and having direct experience with an Osteopathic physician is highly encouraged.
Online shadowing hours will be permitted, although direct, in-person clinical experience with a DO physician is encouraged. - Exposure to Osteopathic medicine is recommended to learn more about the profession.

Technical Standards
- The technical standards requirements are requisite abilities and skills in the following five (5) areas: Observation, Communication, Motor and Sensory, Intellectual, and Behavioral and Social Attributes.
- An offer of acceptance may be rescinded should an accepted applicant NOT meet the Technical Standards Requirements for Admission to XUCOM, or be found to not be able to meet the Technical Standards Requirements following matriculation. The financial impact of a rescinded offer of acceptance, if any, is to be discussed with the Office of the Bursar.
Competitive Admission Criteria
- XUCOM does not set minimum qualifications for candidates to apply. XUCOM conducts a holistic assessment that aligns with Jesuit values and the COM’s mission to produce graduates who are relentless in pursuit of compassion, excellence, and service to their patients.
- Competitive applicant criteria are GPA 3.5 or above, Science GPA 3.5 or above, MCAT 500 or above, and CPBS and BBFL subsections of 125 or above.
- We highly recommend significant clinical, volunteer, and experience that aligns with XUCOM’s mission and commitment to underserved and rural service.
- We encourage candidates to show an understanding and interest in Osteopathic medicine.
