Parents as Partners:
How to support your student through the pivotal transition to Xavier.
Xavier offers several resources to support students through challenges, transitions, and moments when a little extra help is needed.
- Have a Concern? Families can submit a Student Concern Report. The appropriate staff will review the concern and provide outreach and support to the student.
- 24/7 Mental Health Support: Students can call the Muskie Mental Health Line at 513-745-1001 at any time to connect immediately with a counselor. Encourage students to save this number in their phones now.
- Care Managers: Care Managers provide individualized, wraparound support as students navigate college. Students can connect by emailing careandsupport@xavier.edu.
Family takeaway: A student does not have to be in crisis to ask for support. When something feels off, reaching out early can help connect students with the right resources and people. Learn more about Care and Support Services and Student Wellbeing Services

Staying Safe on Campus:
Ensuring your student’s safter through wraparound support from XUPD.
Xavier University Police Department (XUPD) provides 24/7 support to help keep students and the campus community safe.
Know How to Reach XUPD: Call 513-745-000 for emergencies and 513-745-2000 for non-emergencies.
- Use Xavier’s Safety Tools: Students should pay attention to XU Alert-Me notifications and become familiar with the Rave Guardian App, Emergency Phones , and safety escorts.
- Stay Aware: Encourage students to limit distractions, stay aware of their surroundings, secure their belongings, and use well-lit, public areas when possible.
- See Something, Say Something: If something does not look or feel right, students should trust their instincts and contact
Family takeaway: Make sure your student saves XUPD’s numbers in their phone and knows about the safety resources available to them before they need them.

Academics in Check:
Helping your student put their best foot forward academically.
- Academic Support: Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), The Writing Center, Math Lab, professor office hours and academic
- Know the Expectation: College is a full-time Students should plan for about 2–3 hours of studying outside of class for every hour spent in class.
- Build Strong Study Habits: Xavier’s Study Skills Guide gives students practical strategies for time management, organization, studying, note-taking, and Students can also meet one-on-one with a tutor to strengthen these skills and develop strategies that work best for them.
Family takeaway: Encourage your student to use academic resources early and often. Asking for help is part of being a successful college student.

Getting Involved:
How to point your student in the right direction to get engaged on campus.
Xavier offers many ways for students to connect, explore interests, and build community outside the classroom.
- Week of Welcome: 10 days, 100+ free events, and plenty of ways to explore campus — all leading up to Club Day on August 26.
- Sorority & Fraternity Life: Xavier now offers 9 chapters. Students can attend a Greek 101 session to learn how to get involved.
- Getting Around: Students have access to several free transportation options, including METRO bus service, Red Bike, Sunday shopping shuttles, and airport shuttles during holiday breaks, plus discounted weekend Lyft rides.
- EngageXU: The go-to resource for finding student events, organizations, and involvement
Family takeaway: Encourage your student to try something new early—getting involved is one of the easiest ways to meet people and find their place at Xavier.

Rec Sports
Xavier Recreational Sports offers students several ways to stay active, connect with others, and build community.
- Free student membership includes group fitness classes, open swim, and golf simulator
- Intramural Sports: 15+ leagues and tournaments are available for $30 per
- Club Sports: 30 active clubs are available, with no tryouts
- Group Fitness: 25 free classes are offered each week, including yoga, Pilates, cycling, Zumba, and HIIT.

Putting Your Health First:
An overview of services offered and tips on the first six weeks.
Xavier Health Services, operated in partnership with TriHealth, provides convenient on-campus care to help students stay healthy and supported throughout the year.
- Start with Health Services: Students can receive care for illnesses and injuries, preventive care, immunizations, lab work, medication management, chronic conditions, and more. Appointments are recommended, as walk-in availability may
- Establish Care Early: Students who manage a chronic condition or take ongoing medication are encouraged to connect with Health Services early in the semester, so care can be coordinated before a need becomes urgent.
- Mental & Behavioral Health Support: Health Services offers integrated behavioral health support and access to an on-site psychiatrist, in addition to Xavier’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
- After-Hours Support: For non-emergency medical concerns after hours or on weekends, students can call the TriHealth nurse line at 513-246-7023 and identify themselves as a Xavier student.
- Prescriptions Made Easier: Day’s Pharmacy offers Xavier students free prescription delivery to campus and discounted medication pricing. Call 513-771-7350 for more information.
- HIPAA Authorization: Students who would like Health Services to communicate with a parent or family member about their care can complete the appropriate authorization paperwork when scheduling their first appointment.
Family takeaway: Encourage students to know where Health Services is, save the after-hours nurse line, and establish care early, especially if they have an ongoing health condition or medication needs.
