Office of the Bursar

For New Students

Checklist

1. FERPA

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that controls the release of academic, financial, and disciplinary information for college students.
As the student, you get to decide if and when you're going to add someone to an online FERPA Proxy. Once you decide to do this, it's better to do it sooner rather than later. The Proxy is not mandatory and there is no deadline in which to complete it. However, without your completed Proxy (and/or Authorized Users) on file, no information regarding your student account will be shared with anyone.

2. Payment Plan

Students have the option of spreading their total semester balance over monthly payments by enrolling in a payment plan. There is a $50 fee to enroll in the payment plan. At this time, students enrolled in the Accelerated BSN Program are not able to enroll in the payment plan.
If not enrolled in the payment plan, a student's balance must be paid in full the due date of the first statement. The due date for the first Spring 2023 statement is January 3rd, 2023.

3. CASHNet Payers (formerly "Authorized Users")

CASHNet Payers have the ability to view and pay your bursar bill online.

4. Health Insurance: Student Health Insurance Required

All full-time, traditional, undergraduate students and all international students are required to have health insurance and are automatically enrolled.

Waiving the Health Insurance: If you a student already has health insurance coverage, they can waive Xavier's coverage. The reversal (credit) will appear on your bursar account within 7-10 business days. The waiver website will open November 22, 2022 and close February 12, 2023 for the Spring semester.

5. Tuition Insurance

All students will automatically be charged for tuition insurance in the Fall semester (Spring semester if they do not attend in Fall). If the student doesn't want or need this coverage, the student or parent must take action to waive it by visiting www.tuitionprotection.com/xavier. The deadline to waive this tuition insurance is midnight Eastern Time on the Sunday after the semester has started. This insurance is administered by A.W.G. Dewar and provides coverage for tuition and mandatory fees paid to the University at 85% of covered costs. Room and Board are not covered. Refunds may be affected by financial aid award adjustments. This plan significantly extends and enhances the University's existing tuition refund/credit policy. Take time to fully consider this insurance option as there will be no exceptions for refund or credit of tuition and fees if the student has to withdraw during the semester for a covered medical reason and doesn't have insurance coverage through this option. For more information, contact A.W.G. Dewar at 617-774-1555.

6. Outside Scholarships

Send all outside (outside of Xavier) scholarship checks to:
Xavier University
Office of Student Financial Services
Schott Hall 1st Floor
Address: 3800 Victory Parkway
Cincinnati, OH 45207-5111

If the check is made payable to the student AND Xavier University, the student must endorse the back of the check before sending it to Xavier. Be sure to have your student ID # and/or full name on the check. The scholarship amount will be credited to your student account, in its entirety, to the current semester and it will be reported to the Financial Aid Office. As a result, it may or may not have an impact on your financial aid award.
Contact the Office of Student Financial Services at 513-745-3142 if you have questions in this regard.

7. Monthly Statement

Xavier does not produce and mail paper statements. You (and any CASHNet Payer) will receive an email notifying you that your statement is ready to be viewed.

8. Refunds

It is common for many Xavier students to have a credit balance (overpayment) on their bursar account at the beginning of the semester due to the disbursement of financial aid funds. Xavier University has partnered with BankMobile to deliver your financial aid refund. For more information about BankMobile, visit this link: http://bankmobiledisbursements.com/refundchoices/.
