1098-T Information

Here is a brief explanation of Xavier University's 1098-T process but before we go there, here are the steps a student can take to access their 1098-T.

1) Go to the Student Hub at www.xavier.edu/students

2) Click on the Self-Service icon and login

3) Click on Student Services

4) Click on Billing and Payments/Bursar Information

5) Click on 1098T Tax Notification then enter the tax year

Now here is that brief explanation. Please keep in mind that most of the confusion surrounding the actual amounts listed on the 1098-T is the result of combining the calendar year with the academic year. They are two separate years in the eyes of the IRS.

1098-T reporting is different for the 2018 tax year than in the past based on important IRS regulatory changes that have taken place. For 2018 (January - December), IRS regulations require Xavier (and all universities) to report "Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses" (QTRE) in Box 1 on the 1098-T tax form. Box 2, which reports "Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses" is no longer permitted by the IRS. Box 5 on the 1098-T tax form will continue to reflect "Scholarships or Grants".
