Undergraduate Programs

Xavier's undergraduate education programs are among the largest and most popular with nearly 500 students enrolled each year. Students choose Xavier for its rigorous academic and professional preparation, leading to teaching careers in a variety of professional educational environments.

Students select from five major areas of study along with the appropriate licensure program. All programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and are nationally accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

  • Primary Education prepares students to teach grades PreK-5. Students participate in field experiences and student teaching at both the preschool and primary levels.
  • Secondary Education offers a professional education minor that is designed to lead to an Ohio teaching license. Students also complete a content area as their major and are awarded either a Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • The Special Education program awards a Bachelor of Science degree designed to lead to licensure as an intervention specialist. Students choose from the areas of mild/moderate, moderate/intensive, or early childhood completing the requirements for licensure and degree concurrently.
  • Teaching Integrated Science offers the knowledge, skills and practical experience to inspire and educate students in grades 7-12. Develop a deep understanding of biology, chemistry, physics and earth science, while learning effective teaching strategies and classroom management techniques.
  • The Montessori Teacher Education program gives students the opportunity to earn their Montessori credentials as well as traditional licensure through the Primary Education program; Montessori students are prepared to teach in public, private, Montessori and traditional schools.
