Considerations for Integrating Immersive or Service Learning into a new or existing course:

1. Examine the student learning outcomes on your course syllabus:  how will these high impact experiences enhance learning in your class?

2.  Are there topics in your course that could align with a current or historical event or issue of equality, equity, justice or social responsibility?

3. Review the Eigel Center community partner database or contact the staff at the Eigel Center for more information about the types of community partners that are working with Xavier faculty to offer these experiences.

4. Meet with Eigel Center staff  to discuss the outcomes of your course and opportunities to engage your students!

We also have some helpful guidelines and recommendations for refining or updating your current service-learning courses.  Consult this excellent  LibGuide prepared by Professor Wendy Maxian for an academic overview of Service Learning and its impact and implementation.  These national best practices can be utilized as you plan your course.  The Eigel Center remains available for your questions and consultation.
