Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education prepares a teaching candidate to work with children ages 3 through 8, or preschool through grade three. The course of study has child development at the core of pedagogical decisions. The approach is holistic, with a strong emphasis on an integrated learning approach. Developmentally appropriate practice and intense reading instruction are integral to the program. Field experience and student teaching occur at both the preschool and primary level.
Early Childhood Development
The specific study of children ages three to eight, developmental differences in young children, growth and health, developmentally appropriate practice in educational settings, assessment practices with young children.
Play & Arts in Early Childhood Education
The theory and practice concerning developmental aspects of play, creativity, imagination, and their relationship to music, movement, and creative drama. The teacher's role in preparation of the play environment, including issues of special needs children.
Student Teaching
A fourteen week supervised full day student teaching placement under a master teacher. The experience includes reflective practice and team teaching. With the city of Cincinnati as a back drop, there are many student teaching opportunities to select from.
Methods of Observation/Collaboration
The course focuses on observation techniques, classroom management, assessment parent and staff communication, and field paractice in observations. Consultation/collaboration skills with child service professionals in included.
