Edgecliff Alumni Awards

  • Scholarship Application Deadline: TBD
  • Must also apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA by December 1, 2021

The Edgecliff Scholars Award provides scholarships to incoming first-year and transfer students who have been accepted for admission to Xavier University and are Edgecliff alumni relatives (sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren). Scholarship amounts vary from year to year. Selection is made by the Edgecliff Scholars Committee in conjunction with the Office of Alumni and the Office of Student Financial Services. The scholarship award is renewable for up to four years so long as the student stays in good academic standing with the University.

When the award began in 1987, seven years after Edgecliff College merged with Xavier, funds were available to honor just two students. Today, the legacy and spirit of Edgecliff lives on in more and more scholars each year, thanks to the generosity of the many donors who support the Edgecliff Scholarship Fund annually. Founded in 1935 by the Sisters of Mercy, Edgecliff College (originally known as Our Lady of Cincinnati College until 1969) was a private Catholic women's college located in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. The College merged with Xavier University on July 1, 1980. Though Xavier sold the property in 1986, it sustained Edgecliff traditions by moving the fine arts and human service programs to the main campus. Today, art, music, nursing, and social work figure prominently in the University's educational mission. In 2000, Xavier's Alumni Hall was renovated and renamed Edgecliff Hall in honor of the college.

Before accessing scholarship and honors applications you must submit your application for admission to Xavier, either through the Common Application or the Xavier application. Upon submission of your application for admission you will receive an email with log-in credentials that will allow you to access scholarship applications, honors applications, and your personal application status page. Test scores are not required for this competitive scholarship consideration.

James E. Hoff, S.J. Scholar

The amount of the award varies and is in addition to a student’s Edgecliff Scholars award. The James E. Hoff, S.J. Scholar Award is awarded at the discretion of the Edgecliff Scholars Committee based on essay submissions for this award.

To be considered for the James E. Hoff, S.J. Scholar Award, please submit an essay (250-500 words) describing how you have demonstrated the characteristics of a James E. Hoff Scholar with examples of leadership, vision, courage, service and compassion in your academic and/or personal life.
