What brought you to Xavier University and the Exercise Science program?

Both of my parents went to Xavier, so I grew up hearing about it all the time. Initially, that made me want to do my own thing when it came to college. But I toured Xavier and fell in love with the community and opportunities, so here I am!

What’s been a favorite class, project, or experience in the program?

One of my favorite experiences so far has been taking Introduction to Personal Training with Dr. Varol’s. Through the class I was given my own personal training client and learned a lot being able to apply everything from my courses into a real-world setting.

Tell us about a meaningful hands-on experience (research, internship, practicum, or fieldwork).

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to present research at the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine Conference. This experience allowed me to share the health benefits of a goat yoga event that I was able to organize with Exercise Science Club. The conference exposed me to different professionals in the field, opened my eyes to the possibilities of research, and helped me further develop relationships with peers and faculty in the program.

How have you grown personally or professionally since joining the program?

I have developed a lot of confidence since joining the program. Serving as the President of Exercise Science Club has taught me a lot about communication, the value of reaching out to people, and the importance of being able to step outside of my comfort zone.

What advice would you give to future students in this program?

I would tell future students to say yes to everything and prioritize making connections with faculty. You never know where an opportunity could lead!

Favorite campus memory

My favorite campus memory is basketball games with friends!
