Occupational Therapy

Level Two Fieldwork

Level II Fieldwork

The goal of Level II fieldwork is to develop competent, entry-level, generalist occupational therapists (ACOTE, 2018). Level II fieldwork is integral to Xavier University’s curriculum design and includes two, three-month fieldwork experiences in delivering evidence based occupational therapy services to clients. Students will experience Level I and Level II with a variety of clients across the life span within a variety of settings.

Level II Fieldwork Evaluation of the Student

In 2020, the AOTA Fieldwork Performance Evaluation (FWPE) was revised and is scored using the Formstack online portal. A link will be sent to you from Xavier University’s Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for you to access the FWPE through Formstack.

FWPE: Rating Scoring Guide

Some key changes for the new FWPE:

  • At mid-term, there is no pass/fail score.
  • At final, the criterion for passing is 111 points. The previous version criterion for passing was 122. Please make note of this in your scoring.
  • At final, students must score a 3 or higher on questions #1, #2, and #3.
  • At final, if a student scores a 1 on any item the student may not pass.
  • All questions must be scored for both mid-term and final.
  • A continuing education certificate will automatically be emailed to you upon completion of the student’s final.

Level II Fieldwork Objectives

Level II Fieldwork Objectives allow academic and fieldwork educators to agree on established fieldwork objectives prior to the start of the fieldwork experience. All fieldwork experiences include a psychosocial objective (ACOTE standard C.1.3, 2018).

Fieldwork supervision and Medicare

Occupational Therapy students can participate in the delivery of occupational therapy services under the supervision of occupational therapy practitioner in a variety of fieldwork sites. The OT Student Supervision & Medicare Requirements provide information about the way in which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) interpret how and whether the Medicare program should provide payment for services provided by students (AOTA, 2016).
