Tuition Exchange
Please review the following information regarding Xavier's Tuition Exchange Program.
Incoming Students
2027-2028 Academic Year
Awards in the Tuition Exchange Program are made on a competitive basis. Prospective candidates for Tuition Exchange awards will receive priority consideration when applying for admission to the University by November 1. Applications will still be accepted until February 1. The parent’s institution must also submit the necessary approval for consideration (via the Tuition Exchange web site) by February 1. Only prospective first-year, first time students will be considered.
All prospective, incoming first-year applicants who have completed the admissions process and been accepted will be reviewed at the end of February. Xavier uses a holistic review process to determine the recipients of the Tuition Exchange award, including (but not limited to) academic record, leadership, service, application essay and demonstrated interest.
Students will be notified by March 1 if they have been selected for the full-tuition scholarship award. To accept or decline this award, Xavier must be notified by May 1.
Xavier expects to award (annually) up to 10 full-tuition scholarships in the Tuition Exchange Program. General information as well as a listing of participating colleges and universities is available on the Tuition Exchange website.
Students entering Xavier University under the Tuition Exchange Program are eligible for the undergraduate programs governed by the following policies:
- Recipients are granted tuition remission on a space available basis. Students must first meet all admission requirements and be accepted into the University.
- The award is for full time students (12-18 hours) and only covers tuition. Students will be liable for a 10% user’s fee. The fee is 10% of the tuition charge each semester. The fee will be listed on the student’s e-bill each semester.
- Recipients are not eligible for any additional Xavier funds (i.e., Visit Grant, Study Abroad Grant, Catholic or Jesuit identity grants, Housing Grant, etc.). Exceptions may apply for those in student government or non-tuition restricted endowed scholarships.
- The student is responsible for all room and board charges as well as any fees.
- Study Abroad Programs are excluded from the Tuition Exchange Program, unless the student is billed tuition for the program by Xavier University. If billed by Xavier, this would only be applicable in the fall or spring semester and for the normal study abroad tuition tier. Students would be responsible for the additional cost in Tier 1 and Tier 2.
- Tuition Exchange isn’t applicable for students in the ABSN program.
- Tuition Exchange covers a maximum of eight (8) semesters of full-time attendance. Summer sessions are excluded.
- Students must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average, complete at least 67% of their attempted classes, and be certified as eligible by their home campus in order for the award to be renewed.
Outgoing Students
2027-2028 Academic Year
As a member of the Tuition Exchange Program, dependents of Xavier employees who are eligible for full tuition remission at Xavier are eligible to be considered for tuition remission at the participating colleges and universities in the program. Xavier may not be able to accommodate all requests. In addition, the Tuition Exchange Program should not be considered a guaranteed award as there are more students who apply than available awards.
The following guidelines have been established for Xavier employees who wish to apply for the program:
- To be eligible to apply, dependents must meet the qualifications for tuition remission at Xavier. No awards are made for individuals who are part-time or temporary employees.
- The application is for full-time, undergraduate study only.
- An EZ application for the Tuition Exchange Program must be submitted online for all new students at www.tuitionexchange.org, under the Application Process heading by November 1, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
- If earlier notification is required by the receiving institution, it is the responsibility of the enrolled student to advise the Office of Human Resources and the Tuition Exchange Liaison.
- If offered, awards are normally made for four years (eight semesters). However, awards can be made for a shorter period of time in the event the student is already enrolled at the receiving institution or the Liaison Officer deems a shorter award appropriate in order to increase participation. Continued participation requires an annual certification of eligibility. Schools may have additional requirements.
- All successful applicants must notify Xavier’s Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer in writing of the acceptance or non-acceptance of their award by May 1. Failure to do so may result in a delay in renewal in subsequent years.
- If there will be a change in the dependent’s participation in the program (i.e. withdrawal from the host institution, early graduation, etc.) the employee must notify the Tuition Exchange Liaison.
- Questions concerning the Tuition Exchange Program should be directed to the financial aid office; Laura Stith (stith@xavier.edu) is the Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer. Benefits questions should be directed to Human Resources.
- The applicant must abide by all regulations of the receiving institution.
- Xavier University reserves the right to modify these guidelines to insure an appropriate balance between import and export students.
- For a listing of the member schools, go to www.tuitionexchange.org.
