Korea - May 12 to May 21 , 2023

“Miracle on the Han River” refers to the period of the rapid economic growth in South Korea following the Korean War (1950–1953); during this period South Korea transformed from a least developing country to a developed country. South Korea is now one of the world’s largest economies and is currently at rank 10; GDP in Korea has reached 1,798 billion USD and 34,758 USD per capita. It is the home of multinational conglomerates, such as Hyundai and Samsung, and it has created ”Hallyu” (the Korean Wave) to export Korean culture through K-pop, K-drama, and K-beauty industries. However, merely a half-century ago, the country’s economy was very similar to Ghana’s, and it was considered a developing country highly dependent on international aid.
