Filmmaking and The Art of Visual Communication

A hands-on, production course that teaches the integration between idea formation and technique. You will be developing content from a script in field production environments. You will refine skills like teamwork, pre-production, directing, producing, photography, audio production, and post production. Your objective in this course is to become more proficient with video production techniques and tools, better accustomed to production management and planning, adapting to work in team settings, and ultimately becoming better storytellers.

 

Faculty:

In 2017, Kyle joined Xavier in the DIFT Program as an Adjunct Professor. In 2019, Kyle was brought to Xavier and DIFT full time as a Teaching Professor. Kyle Howland works various roles in the film and television production industry with a highlight being on Narrative Storytelling and Commercial Video. From 2012 to 2019, Kyle was employed at the award-winning commercial production company, I & Eye Productions, working as a Director of Photography and Editor. Kyle also works full time as an independent contractor in the production industry. As a contractor, Kyle has worked on national programming for HBO, Comedy Central, ESPN, NFL Network, MLB Network, Travel Channel, G.A.C. as well as many regional commercials and digital campaigns. As Independent Filmmaker, Kyle has lensed or edited over 20 short films over the last plus numerous music videos, non-fiction films, promotional videos and animated videos. Within the production industry, Kyle’s specialties include producing, photography, editing, and motion graphics.
