Forensic Science Camp for High School Students
CSI Forensics Camp at Xavier University
This weeklong summer camp located on our campus in Cincinnati, Ohio immerses high school students (grades 10–12) in the exciting world of forensic science and law enforcement. Led by a retired 27-year law enforcement veteran and current Xavier professor, participants will investigate a mock crime scene using professional forensic kits, lab equipment, and hands-on activities that bring real-world concepts to life. With interactive labs, engaging discussions, and teamwork-based challenges, students will gain unique insight into investigative techniques while sharpening critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Designed for future leaders and curious minds, the program offers an unforgettable blend of learning, discovery, and college campus experience.

Forsensic Science Camp Details
- June 15-19, 2026
- 9:00am-4:00pm
- Camp will be conducted in both the classroom and science lab on our campus in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- Campers will learn about and learn how to:
- Package and label evidence from a crime scene
- Study and analyze fingerprint patterns and practice developing latent fingerprints
- Analyze hair samples under the microscope to match or eliminate suspects
- Investigate impressions left by tire tracks and how to collect as evidence
- Examine blood samples (using synthetic blood) and determine blood types
- Learn about forensic entomology by analyzing insects found at the crime scene to help determine the time and location of death, and potentially other factors related to the crime.
- Campers will receive a unique to summer Xavier Jersey and all supplies.

Meet the Forensic Science Camp Instructors
Angela Keller was with the Covington Police Department Crime Lab for over 27 years, recently retiring in 2025. She served as the Crime Lab Supervisor during the last eight years of her career there. She has processed hundreds of crime scenes, analyzed thousands of evidence items, identified latent fingerprints to subjects, and testified in district, circuit, and federal court. Angela has been a member of the International Association of Identification since 2002. She has also taught at Xavier University since 2018.

Eric J Higgins, MS, has been teaching Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Forensics, classes in higher education for fifteen years. Eric has been working in law enforcement for twenty-seven years and is currently working for the City of Independence, Kentucky as a detective. Eric retired (December, 2019) from the Covington Police Department’s Crime Bureau as the financial crimes/homicide investigator, was assigned to the United States Secret Service Task Force and the United States Marshal's Fugitive Task Force. Eric was previously assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigations task force, previously assigned the sex offender caseload investigating and monitoring their compliance with registration laws and has worked in the Crime Suppression Unit as a Narcotics Detective investigating VICE crimes. Eric holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Northern Kentucky University. Eric is a Certified Peace Officer, Law Enforcement Officer Advanced Investigator, and Certified Crisis Intervention Officer.
