Residence Life Learning Outcomes

A learning outcome is a brief description of what students will learn while they are living on campus and guides how that learning is measured by Xavier. Learning outcomes can also help students take charge of their personal growth and better recognize how living on campus is shaping their overall wellbeing and college experience.

Our learning outcomes were developed with the needs of today's students in mind while also intentionally facilitating programs and learning opportunities that are engaging, impactful, memorable, and unique to Xavier. We have categorized our learning outcomes into the four pillars of Student Affairs' programs and services.

Care, Support, and Advocacy

  • Residential students will identify at least three Xavier individuals or resources they have connected with during their academic year living on campus.
  • Residential students will name at least one support person or resource that positively impacts their personal wellbeing.

Health and Wellbeing

  • Through shared living environments, residential students will recognize their role in maintaining a respectful living environment for their peers.
  • As a result of engaging with the residential curriculum, residential students will indicate at least one resilience strategy they employed to sustain their personal wellbeing.
  • Through engagement with the conduct process, residential students will discern the impact their decision-making has in a shared living environment.

Community and Belonging

  • Residential students will find one meaningful peer connection through engagement in at least one community-building activity per semester.
  • Residential students will articulate how a new social connection with a peer informed a new personal perspective.
  • Residential students will demonstrate accountability to shared community standards through contributions to their roommate/suitemate and community agreements.

Leadership and Engagement

  • Resident Assistants (RAs) can articulate at least one leadership skill they acquired through their RA role.
  • By participating in Residence Life Advisory Board, residential students will discover opportunities to provide informed contributions to improving the residential experience.
