Years 3-4: Clinical Rotations

The final two years of the Osteopathic Medicine, D.O. journey transition you from the classroom to the bedside. This is where your foundation in Jesuit values and osteopathic principles meets real-world patient care.

Core Clerkships: The Foundation of Practice

During your third year (OMS3), you will rotate through six core specialties. These rotations are designed to give you a broad, high-volume clinical experience across the essential pillars of medicine.

  • Internal Medicine (8 weeks): Two back-to-back rotations for deep immersion in complex adult care.
  • Family Medicine (4 weeks): Comprehensive care for all ages.
  • Pediatrics (4 weeks): Focusing on the health and development of children.
  • General Surgery (4 weeks): Mastering the fundamentals of surgical intervention and post-operative care.
  • Psychiatry (4 weeks): Developing expertise in mental health and behavioral medicine.
  • OB/GYN (4 weeks): Focusing on reproductive health and maternal care.

Call-Back Days: Even while off-site, you remain connected. Third-year students return to campus for dedicated "Call-Back Days" featuring advanced didactics, clinical skills refinement, and OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations) to ensure your skills remain sharp.

Required & Specialized Rotations

To ensure you are a well-rounded physician ready for any environment, our curriculum includes specific requirements that address the most pressing needs in modern healthcare:

  • Emergency Medicine: High-stakes decision-making and acute care.
  • Geriatrics: Specialized training in the unique needs of the aging population.
  • Primary Care Selectives: Two additional rotations to deepen your expertise in community-based medicine.

Electives & The Path to Residency

Year 4 (OMS4) is about tailoring your education to your future specialty. With six elective slots, you have the freedom to explore your passions or audition at potential residency programs.

  • Customized Electives: Choose from five general electives and one specialized surgery elective.
  • Sub-Internship: Take on increased responsibility to prepare for the rigors of your intern year.
  • Rural/Underserved Rotation: Honor the Jesuit mission by providing essential care to high-need communities.

Seamless Transitions

Our curriculum includes three dedicated 4-week transition courses to guide your professional development:

  • Transition to Clerkship 1 & 2: Bridging the gap between pre-clinical labs and hospital floors.
  • Transition to GME (Graduate Medical Education): A final, intensive preparation block to ensure you are ready to hit the ground running on day one of your residency.
