Xavier Spring Break: Service, Solidarity and Sustainability in Peru 

Enroll in Spanish 359 for the Spring Semester. Engage with Peruvian students virtually, build your intercultural competence and learn about this fascinating country! Embedded in this course is a nine day immersion in Peru. It is an opportunity of a lifetime that includes:

  • Staying with a host family
  • Engaging with Peruvian students at the Jesuit University in Lima
  • Working alongside Peruvian students in service projects
  • Engage with children in summer literacy projects, afternoon soccer programs and immigration programs
  • Visit sustainable housing projects and experience an Andean ritual
  • Explore Historic Lima, Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Cusco, and Tambomachay.
  • Hike and explore archeological sites in the Andes, including Machu Picchu!
  • Enhance your linguistic competencies in Spanish.
  • Examine social justice issues related to global citizenship.
  • Experience the inextricable connection of languages and cultures.

Fee: $3195 (approximate) Program fee includes all meals, host family stays, all in-country transportation (train, plan, bus), tour guides, entrance fees to historical sites.

Community Engagement, Immersion, Language and Culture: Join the Adventure of a lifetime: 

  • Interact with university students, children, host families and the Andean community of Ccatca.
  • Examine issues of health inequality, access to education and health care, among other related social justice issues .
  • Reflect on your circumstances and those of others to develop the cultural sensitivity needed to work with diverse populations.
  • Participate in community engagement projects and interact with Peruvians from all walks of life.
  • Explore Historic Lima, Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Cusco, Tambomachay, Pisca and Ollantaytambo.
  • Hike and explore archeological sites in the Andes, including Machu Picchu!
  • Enhance your linguistic competencies in Spanish.
  • Examine social justice issues related to global citizenship.
  • Experience the inextricable connection of languages and cultures.

COST: $5200 (approximate)

Program fee includes: 6 credits tuition, all meals, family stay, tours and entrance fees to historical sites, transportation in country: flight, train
