X-Vaping 2: Vaping Addiction

X-Vaping 2: Vaping Addiction

Vaping is a growing concern for many school districts. Addressing vaping may be expensive. To help, Xavier University's Center for Population Health developed a free intervention. X-Vaping 2: Vaping Addiction is a tier-2 vaping intervention program designed for high school students who have been caught vaping at school or are in possession of vapes/e-cigarettes on school property more than once during a school year. We recommend that schools use X-Vaping 1 for the student's first violation of the school's vaping policy of the school year, and this intervention for the student's second violation. This modular educational program is easily integrated into most academic platforms, such as Canvas and Blackboard. It takes roughly an hour to complete. Students will watch YouTube videos, complete quizzes, and create a quit plan.

Program Modules

The program is divided into several modules on the school’s academic platform which include:

(1) Introduction (i.e., What is vaping addiction)

(2) Addiction Consequences (e.g., e-cigarette or vaping product-associated lung injury [EVALI])

(3) Legal Issues (e.g., Ohio T21 Law)

(4) Refusal and Social Skills (e.g., how to say 'no', how to be assertive with friends)

(5) Breaking Vaping Addiction (i.e., how to create a successful quit plan)

(6) Resources (e.g., treatment resources, quit plan resources, etc.)
