Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice

Welcome to the Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice. We offer master's degrees in theology as well as certificate programs in Biblical Studies, Ethics, Pastoral Care, and Spirituality. You can also take individual courses as a non-degree student, either for credit or on a non-credit basis.

Our programs are suitable for both professional development and personal spiritual growth.

Our courses can be taken in-person or, for those located 50 miles or more from campus, can be taken online in a synchronous format, i.e. you would participate remotely together with the in-person students. Our courses during the Fall and Spring semesters are offered on weekday evenings. Summer courses are fully online and meeting times vary.

The Institute for Spirituality and Social Justice (ISSJ) was established in 2014 to advance the integration of theological knowledge, spirituality and social engagement.  All of its offerings—graduate degrees, certificate programs and one-day programs, workshops and retreats—are designed to cultivate depth of thought, imagination and critical skills in a world challenged by violence, social inequity and environmental instability.

ISSJ programming, certificate programs and master's degrees make accessible the practical tools of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, the Jesuit focus on right-relationship and ethical action, and the kind of rigorous social analysis and reflection that fuels change toward the common good.
