Dewar Tuition Insurance

Xavier has partnered with Dewar, LLC in offering tuition and mandatory fee insurance (TRP) to students and families. The TRP insurance will cover up to 85% of the tuition and mandatory fees for any student who suffers a serious illness or accident and needs to take a medical leave before the semester is completed. Room and board are not covered. If a student does NOT want the insurance, the student must waive the insurance online.

In order to file a claim the student must:

  • Be enrolled in the program (not waive it)
  • Withdraw completely from the semester for a covered reason

In the case of an approved claim, the student will receive an 85% refund of tuition charges only (fees, room and board are not included). It is the policy of Xavier to remove the following institutional aid:

  • Entrance Merit Scholarship
  • Muskie Program Grant
  • Enrollment Services Grant
  • Magis Award
  • Other departmental scholarships such as music and art awards
  • Other entrance awards such as Williams, Weninger, and Edgecliff scholarships

Since Xavier merit aid is available for only 8 semesters, this will preserve the semester of scholarship(s) for future use.

The following aid can remain on the student’s account after a Dewar claim is paid out:

  • Early Filer Grant
  • Event Grant
  • Housing Grant, if there are still housing charges on the student’s account. If housing charges have been prorated, the grant must be prorated as well.

Students will not receive Dewar claim checks directly. Checks from Dewar will come to the Bursar’s Office and be applied to the student account. The student still is responsible for 15% of tuition charges and any housing and food charges that were assessed, so there may be a remaining balance that first must be satisfied before a credit is issued to the student.

Prior to receiving the credit, students with federal student aid will be subject to the Return to Title IV calculation required of every student who withdraws from Xavier. If the student owes unearned federal aid back to the Department of Education, the Financial Aid Administrator will return it per the federal calculation. Only after the Return to Title IV process has been completed, institutional aid has been removed, and other outstanding charges have been satisfied will a credit be issued to the student.
