ARTS-112-SPN The Aesthetic Exp in Spain 

This course uses Comillas Spain as the context for understanding a wide range of topics including: light and photography, textural rubbings, found objects, creative strategies, observational and gesture drawing, color theory, photography and the shapes of the city, ephemeral art, logo design, typography, poster design, and other topics and activities. We will have in-class lectures and out-of-class walks. You will be expected to keep a daily journal of the in-class prompts and other observations. “Living (reading) without reflection is like eating without digesting.” Edmund Burke

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to discuss important Spanish artists, art historical movements, and works of art and link them to historical and political contexts surrounding their creation.
  2. Students will be able to use drawing techniques to represent an image or design.
  3. Students will be able to use different mediums to create art. 
  4. Students will be able to use design software to create art. 
  5. Students will be able to reflect on their experience with a journal.
