Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to present Disuse, photographs by PJ Sturdevant, October 20-November 17.

P.J. Sturdevant presents, Disuse - a collection of photographic prints featuring objects that were once functional, now worn, discarded, repurposed, or even unrecognizable. The viewer may imagine what the original function could have been. The monochromatic bromoil process has been used to intensify and add interest to what remains.

P.J. says, "In 2022 I created a collection of Bromoil prints named A Record Of Disuse. This collection featured objects that were once functional, now worn, and discarded. By presenting each out of context with little reference to time or place, interpretation is left up to the viewer.

In 2023 I continued to explore this concept using the monochromatic Bromoil process of printing and added additional prints to the collection.

By its nature, the Bromoil process allows an additional level of manipulation providing a level of abstraction resulting in a unique ink-based print."

Please join us for the Artist Reception on Wednesday, October 25, 4:00-6:00 p.m. to enjoy the art and for refreshments!
