Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Barbara W. Trauth (Edgecliff class of 1969), titled This Valley of Tears, September 22-October 13, 2023.

Sixteen sculptures and paintings represent the artist’s view of the violence inflicted by war on nations and people. In one piece, Ms. Trauth brings awareness to the efforts of peacemaker, Takachi Nagai, a doctor who lectured throughout Japan after World War II. He was severely injured in Nagasaki at ground zero. Nagai begged for peace and forgiveness.

These artworks are very personal to the artist who states, “As the world braces for possible nuclear confrontation, it is my hope that these works of art will help people to meditate on peace and forgiveness and the healing of our world.”

Please join us for an artists’ reception on Friday, September 22, 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Xavier University Art Galleries, located in the A. B. Cohen Center.
