Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to announce a thesis exhibition by Senior Art Major, Shelby Ernst, December 2-16, 2022.

Travel Diaries is a body of work that was inspired by Shelby Ernst’s five-week journey through Europe. This trip gave the artist a glimpse into each destination's diverse culture, landscape, and ambiance. After visiting nine countries and fourteen cities, Shelby brought home a vast collection of memories, experiences, and ideas to create her artwork.

The artwork she created is a culmination of digital designs executed into various forms. From logo and brand design, map design, digital illustrations and prints, and to various iconography as giftable souvenirs, Shelby turns the digital into the tangible through her graphic design skills.

Shelby’s exhibition offers viewers a comprehensive view of the beauty she experienced in Europe. Looking back on her travels, so much was seen in such a short amount of time.  Therefore, she looks at her trip as a whole, rather than individual places. The exhibition follows the same journey Shelby traveled while unifying her trip into one collective identity.

Please join us for the Artist’s Reception on Friday, December 2, 4:00-6:30 p.m.
