FotoFocus-Searching for Life: Regrowth & Display

Xavier University and the Department of Art are pleased to present two photographic exhibitions as part of FotoFocus 2022 World Record Biennial, October 1-28, 2022.

In the Xavier University Art Galleries located in the A. B. Cohen Center, Searching for Life:  Re-growth & Display, by WE, the Women’s Caucus will be displayed.  This international juried competition displays seventy-nine photographs by women working with light and photography to process and reveal the adversities in life they have experienced.  Historically, photography has been dominated by the male gaze. This exhibition breaks through these barriers and gives an opportunity for the female gaze to stare back at the male-dominated world.  Support for this 2022 Biennial exhibition was provided by FotoFocus.

In the Xavier University Art Gallery located on the third floor of the Gallagher Student Center, P. J. Sturdevant presents A Record of Disuse – a collection of photographic prints featuring objects that were once functional.  Now worn, discarded, and even unrecognizable, the viewer may imagine what the original function could have been.  The monochromatic bromoil process has been used to record, intensify and add interest to what remains.  The bromoil process is a printing method that combines the arts of photography, printmaking, and painting.

Please join us for the Artists’ Reception on Friday, October 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
