Housing Accommodation Information

Xavier University recognizes that students with disabilities may have housing needs related to the impact of a disability or disabilities. Therefore a variety of living options are available to students including traditional, suite-style, and private bedrooms. It is the responsibility of the student requesting a housing accommodation to make any housing needs known to Accessibility and Disability Resources well in advance of the beginning of the semester in which on campus housing is requested.

Please be aware that a diagnosis of a disorder/condition/syndrome condition in and of itself does not automatically qualify a student for a housing accommodation.

Housing deadlines:

Incoming freshman students: June 5th

The deadline for rising sophomores to request a housing accommodation is February 13th.

If you already have a housing accommodation, you do not need to go through the full accommodation request process. You only need to submit the Abbreviated Housing Form.

Please plan ahead to allow enough time to complete the process by the stated deadlines as failure to do so may result in the request not being processed.

Steps for requesting a housing accommodation

Step 1: Gather documentation that supports your request.

Accessibility and Disability Resources requires supporting documentation from an appropriately licensed professional that describes how a housing accommodation supports your medical or disability needs. Documentation can be uploaded with your application or submitted separately.

Documentation Guidance

You can send the documentation by fax to 513-745-3387 or by mail to Cassandra Jones, Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45207.

Step 2: Complete the housing accommodation application in AIM.

Step 3: Schedule your Accommodation Planning Meeting

If you live locally or are willing to come to campus, you can schedule an on-campus appointment. If you live outside of the Cincinnati area, you can schedule a phone appointment. Contact Accessibility and Disability Resources at 513-745-3280 or by email at adr@xavier.edu or in person at our offices, located on the 1st floor of the McDonald Library.

Step 4: Meet with Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources staff for an Accommodation Planning Meeting

Through the interactive process, we will discuss your disability and its implications for needing a housing accommodation.

Decisions regarding housing accommodations are made by the Housing Accommodation Review Committee based on the information provided by the student and medical provider.  The committee members are staff from Residence Life & Accessibility and Disability Resources.

ADR will share their recommendations with Residence Life. If you are an incoming student, Residence Life will assign you a space that meets your needs. If you are a current Xavier student, Residence Life will reach out to you with housing options that align with your needs; if you are unhappy with your accommodated housing options, you will also be given the option to forgo your housing accommodation and receive a room selection time instead
