Text-To-Speech

Read&Write

Read&Write includes reading, writing, and studying tools all in one easy-to-use toolbar. All current Xavier students, faculty, and staff have access to the software on all platforms. Download from Texthelp.

  • Students who are registered with the Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources who use materials in alternate formats will use this tool in conjunction with electronic formats. Contact the Assistive Technology Coordinator for training on Read&Write.
  • XU faculty and staff can contact Doug Hanson (hansond@xavier.edu) to download Read&Write.

Kurzweil

Kurzweil at Xavier is only used in the testing environment to provide text-to-speech and/or OCR options for students to access testing materials.

C-Pen Readers

The C-Pen Reader is a personal text-to-speech scanning device. It allows the user to highlight over text and have the text read aloud. It has a dictionary available, but this feature can be turned off for use in a testing environment.
