Writing Center - How to Become a Writing Center Tutor

Undergraduates interested in becoming a Writing Center tutor must first complete ENGL 315/515 (Composition Tutoring), a three credit hour course taught most spring semesters in conjunction with the Director of the Writing Center. Students who complete the course with a satisfactory grade are eligible to apply for tutoring positions in the Center.

Graduate students can apply for assistantships in the Writing Center through the Office of Graduate Services. If positions are available, candidates are interviewed by the Director of the Writing Center in late spring for positions to begin in the fall. Special consideration is given to those who are English majors or Education majors with a concentration in English; have excellent writing skills as demonstrated by a record in English and/or other writing classes and activities; have experience working with students one-to-one or in a classroom setting; have strong knowledge of grammar, mechanics, and at least one paper format; and have some familiarity with computers and word processing software.

Please contact Rebecca Todd (toddr@xavier.edu), Director of the Writing Center, if you are interested in becoming a tutor.
