For THE CRUCIBLE:
For THE CRUCIBLE, here are details from our director, Regina Pugh: I’m asking you to prepare two monologues totaling about 3-4 minutes. One should be a piece you already know, love and feel good about. The other should be one of the options in this folder from The Crucible.
You may choose any monologue from this folder regardless of gender. Enjoy and use the language. Look for the words that we might want to ring out to our audience. Focus on what the person wants and allow them to strive hard for it. Remember that striving can take lots of different forms and humans will switch tactics when they sense one isn’t working.
Many of these options are spliced together from a larger scene. I’ve tried to make them clear but you are welcome to contact me if you are confused.
For your Crucible choice, you are welcome to memorize it, but you are also welcome to keep the script in your hand. I am fine with you spending your preparation time exploring the character rather than memorizing the words. If you do that enough, you will have it in your head pretty solidly and the script can be there to prompt you, if needed.
It is ok to record your pieces separately but if you do, you will need to edit them into one video.
Please record your CRUCIBLE audition and post as a hidden link on YouTube. You will need to email me (skiless1@xavier.edu) your link, along with a digital copy of your headshot and resume, no later than Friday, August 22 at 6:00pm.
Click HERE to access the link the google folder with Crucible materials.
Callbacks for THE CRUCIBLE will be held on Sunday, 8/24/25, from 4:00pm-8:00pm in the Studio Theatre on the lower level of Gallagher Student Center. These will be live and online via Teams. Those called back will receive an email with information on Saturday evening.
