Spanish Immersion in Puebla, Mexico
October 31, 2025
This summer, Dr. Leah Dunn and Dr. Marnie Renda participated in a three-week Spanish immersion program at IBERO La Universidad Jesuita in Puebla, Mexico. Alongside faculty from other Jesuit universities and high schools across the U.S., they worked to strengthen their Spanish language skills while embracing the opportunity to learn about Mexican culture.
Their goal was to improve their Spanish in preparation for future work with Xavier’s TIDE (Total Immersive Diversity Experience) Level I fieldwork, which emphasizes cultural humility and global engagement. During their time in Puebla, Dr. Dunn and Dr. Renda explored the city’s rich history, visited museums and historic churches, and experienced the region’s celebrated cuisine—including Puebla’s signature dish, mole poblano. The program not only deepened their cultural understanding but also fostered connections with colleagues committed to integrating language and culture into their personal and professional lives.
