Prof + Prof: Xavier’s bold approach to career-ready learning

At Xavier University, innovation in the classroom is taking a new form through the “Prof + Prof” model, where faculty and industry leaders co-teach courses that blend academic theory with real-world practice. The first course using this approach, Marketing 391: Sponsorship in Marketing, is led by marketing professor Ashley Stadler Blank alongside Matt Hollenkamp, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

The course immerses students in real marketing challenges, asking them to develop sponsorship strategies for actual organizations. Assignments mirror professional tools used at companies like Procter & Gamble, while guest speakers from industry share firsthand insights into marketing careers.

Beyond learning concepts, students build practical skills in communication, teamwork and strategic thinking—often gaining mentorship and networking opportunities with professionals. Many describe the experience as bringing marketing “to life.”

With additional Prof + Prof courses planned, Xavier hopes to expand this model across campus, strengthening alumni connections and giving students hands-on experiences that prepare them for meaningful careers.
