Faculty Spotlight: Scott Beck

Sometimes a single moment can change everything. For Scott Beck, that moment came after a conference breakout session while he was working at dunnhumby. A few Xavier University MBA students approached him afterward and asked if he’d consider giving a guest lecture. Two days later, the assistant dean called with a bigger question: would he lead the class?

Beck initially said no. But out of gratitude to his alma mater—where he earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA—he agreed to teach for one semester. That was 16 years ago.

Today Beck is a Senior Teaching Professor in Xavier’s marketing department, teaching courses like Category Management, Marketing Research, and Retail Analytics Practicum. His classes blend theory with real-world experience, often bringing in live projects and industry partners.

For Beck, the greatest reward is helping students discover career paths they didn’t know existed. Drawing on his professional network and business experience, he mentors students and connects them with opportunities—continuing Xavier’s tradition of personal support and guidance.
