Daniel Wooddell, PMP®

Senior Instructional Technologist

Daniel Wooddell is the Senior Instructional Technologist in Xavier University’s Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) department, where he has supported faculty & staff in designing effective, student-centered learning experiences since 2013.

With a background in Management Information Systems and leadership experience in healthcare IT, Daniel brings a systems-level perspective to educational technology - connecting instructional strategy, institutional infrastructure, and emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

In his role, Daniel partners with faculty to design, develop, and implement courses across modalities, with expertise in the Canvas LMS, digital pedagogy, and technology-enhanced learning. His work emphasizes practical, faculty-centered solutions that improve instructional efficiency, student engagement, and course quality.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Daniel and an Instructional Designer served as Xavier’s Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) team. They were central to sustaining instructional continuity as the university rapidly transitioned to remote and hybrid learning. They worked closely with faculty across disciplines to redesign courses, scale the use of Canvas and educational technologies, and deliver just-in-time support at scale under compressed timelines. Their efforts ensured that instruction remained consistent, accessible, and aligned with Xavier’s academic standards during a period of significant disruption.

Daniel is also the creator and maintainer of the Teaching with Technology website, including the Generative AI Hub, which is a centralized resource designed to help faculty explore, evaluate, and apply AI tools in their teaching. The hub provides curated tools, practical use cases, and guidance for responsible implementation, supporting faculty in enhancing student learning, increasing efficiency, and fostering meaningful engagement without requiring full course redesigns.

In addition to tool guidance, Daniel has developed resources on AI best practices, prompting strategies, and ethical use, helping faculty integrate generative AI in ways that align with Xavier’s mission, academic integrity standards, and student-centered pedagogy.

He serves as a key liaison between Instructional Design (IDT) and Information Technology (IT), contributing to institution-wide initiatives that support innovation, scalability, and the thoughtful adoption of emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
