Immunization Exemptions

Exemptions

Xavier students may request exemptions from required immunizations or vaccinations for medical or religious reasons.

Medical

  • If a student has a medical condition that prohibits completing one or more of the requirements, the student may submit a medical exemption.
  • Medical exemptions must be completed by a licensed medical provider and uploaded to your account at MedProctor.

Religious

  • If a student objects to the requirement based on religious beliefs, the student may submit a Religious exemption.
  • The student must answer all questions in Section B of the exemption form. NOTE – answers to the questions must be provided with the completed exemption form.
  • The exemption must be notarized by a Notary Public and uploaded to your account at MedProctor.

Because many academic programs include clinical, fieldwork, or experiential learning placements, students should be aware that partner institutions may have additional immunization requirements. These external organizations may require certain vaccinations as a condition for participation in clinical or field experiences, regardless of any exemption granted by Xavier.

If an exemption is approved:

  • Xavier will make reasonable efforts to identify an alternative placement when possible.
  • Alternative placements cannot be guaranteed.
  • Program completion may be delayed if placement requirements cannot be met.
  • Students may become ineligible for certain certification exams or clinical experiences.
  • Some employment opportunities after graduation may be limited by immunization requirements.

Students are encouraged to carefully consider the potential academic and professional implications before requesting an exemption.

Students in programs requiring clinical experiences may need to submit immunization verification through additional University systems (ex. CastleBranch, ViewPoint Screening, etc.)
