Brueggeman Salons

In 2025, we began reviving the classic concept of the intellectual salon—a series of intimate conversations over food and drink, hosted at the Brueggeman Center. As we experiment with this model of dialogue, participation in the salons is by invitation.
Salon #4: Medical Humanities and Jesuit Education
This salon will feature conversation with Dr. Jodi Wyett on the topic of the role of the medical humanities at Xavier. Dr. Wyett will help us explore how the medical humanities can enrich health care education in the light of Xavier's mission.

Salon #3: Jesuit mission and non-religious faculty

This salon features a conversation with Dr. Kristen Renzi on the theme of partnership in the Jesuit mission of Xavier. Dr. Renzi and I will discuss how, as a secular and nonreligious person, she has found a home at a Catholic university.
Salon #2: Zen Spirit-Christian Spirit
An intimate salon-style conversation with Professor Ruben Habito on the topic Zen Spirit-Christian Spirit. At this gathering, we will discuss how Zen practice can deepen and enhance Christian Faith. Ruben Habito is a Filipino-born Zen teacher and Christian theologian whose work focuses on the dialogue and integration between Zen Buddhism and Christianity. He is a key figure in interreligious spirituality particularly in exploring how contemplative practice can deepen Christian faith.
Salon #1: Faith, Ethics, and the Algorithm: J Jesuit Conversation on AI, with Dr. Cyrus Olsen, Ph.D. (Harvard Medical School/University of Scranton)
