Mr. J. Wayne McFarland

Teaching Professor, Department of Criminal Justice

Professor McFarland brings more than 35 years of real-world experience to the classroom, offering students a unique and practical perspective on the criminal justice system. His career includes over three decades of service in Juvenile Court, five years in active military law enforcement, and extensive work in correctional facility security. He has held leadership roles in supervision, management, and training, and has conducted numerous inspections and investigations throughout his career.

Before joining the Department of Criminal Justice as a full-time Teaching Professor in 2024, Professor McFarland served as an adjunct professor for 18 years, mentoring and educating future criminal justice professionals with the same dedication he brought to his fieldwork.

A proud Xavier University alumnus, Professor McFarland is also a recipient of the prestigious Paul H. Hahn Graduate Award. Outside the classroom, he’s an avid soccer fan and a strong supporter of all things Cincinnati.
