Alyson McAdams
Assistant Director, Career Development Office
Alyson McAdams is an Assistant Director of Career Development at Xavier University. In addition to the majors and programs listed below, I am the designated Student-Athlete Career Coach, specializing in student-athlete career development. In my role, I provide guidance to students on various areas of career development through both one-on-one career coaching appointments and workshops, including but not limited to: major and career exploration, job and internship search strategy, resume construction, networking best practices, and interview preparation. I also co-lead Xavier’s Professional Mentor Program which matches current Xavier students with industry professionals in their desired fields to increase networking opportunities, set and track professional goals, and increase industry knowledge. I am also a current Xavier MBA student, allowing me to continue being a life-long learner and to become an even more valuable resource for my students.
I earned my M.S.Ed., Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of Dayton (UD) in 2023 where I also served as a Graduate Assistant Career Advisor in their Office of Career Services. While at UD, I also completed several graduate internships with the Athletic Department in the Office of Academic Support Services for Student-Athletes, as well as with the Student-Athlete Development & Community Engagement Office where I partnered in creating UD’s Take Flight Program, a holistic student-athlete development program aimed at equipping UD student-athletes with the proper tools, resources, and mindsets to excel in their professional and personal lives both on and off their respective fields of play. The student-athlete experience was the base of my graduate research, A Part of Me: The Value Division I Student-Athletes Place on Their Student-Athlete Identities and its Implications for Transition Out of Sport.
I earned my B.A. majoring in Sport Management from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. I was an NCAA Division III Softball Student-Athlete and contributed to the Cardinals’ 2 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championships and 2 NCAA Regional Tournament appearances. I assisted my team in earning the 2017-2018 #1 NFCA All-Academic Team in which the program had the highest cumulative GPA amongst all NCAA Division III teams across the country, while posting a personal 4.00 GPA. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio and currently live on the west side of Cincinnati with my dog, Granger, and down the road from my in-laws' 20+ cows.
