In the summer of 2020, GE Aerospace President and CEO David Joyce announced his retirement. While Joyce’s 12-year tenure as President and CEO is known for leadership and innovation, his contribution to military affiliated students at Xavier University will live on forever. To honor Joyce’s vision, an annual scholarship was created in his name. Learn more about the origin of the David Joyce Scholarship.
Xavier University along with Mr. and Mrs. Joyce are offering scholarships for any full-time enrolled GE Aerospace employee or GE Aerospace dependent. Preference will be given to students with a Veteran or military affiliated status. Scholarship funds are limited to tuition and fees and are available for full and part-time students. Full-time students are eligible for up to $2,000 per semester while part-time students’ scholarships will be awarded on a pro-rated basis. Full-time students include undergraduates enrolled in 12 credit hours or more per semester or graduate students enrolled in 6 credit hours or more.
Required Materials
The Materials below are required to be uploaded as part of either the Xavier application or the David Joyce Scholarship application and will all be taken into consideration and scored by the scholarship board as part of the awarding process.
Xavier Application
- Official certificate of completion or transcript from secondary education (high school)
- Official ttranscripts from any/all colleges or universities attended (including Joint Service Transcript or Community College of the Air Force transcript for Veterans)
- 250-500 word writing sample
- Letter of recommendation
- GRE/GMAT (for graduate applicants)
- Program specific requirements (view a full list of programs and their specific requirements)
David Joyce Scholarship Application

- 500 word essay
- DD-214 (military discharge paperwork)
Criteria
Submit University Application (Deadline: May 31, 2024)
You must be accepted to the university or a continuing student to be considered for the David Joyce Scholarship. Before accessing the scholarship application you must submit your application for admission to Xavier, either through the Common Application portal or the Xavier application portal. Upon submission of your application for admission you will receive an email with log-in credentials that will allow you to access the scholarship application.
Submit Scholarship Application (Deadline: May 31, 2024)
To be eligible for consideration for the David Joyce Scholarship applicants must be current GE Aerospace Employees or GE Aerospace Dependents. A Dependent of a GE Aerospace Employee is defined as a spouse, son, daughter, stepchild, legally adopted child, or foster child that has been placed by a government agency.
Applicants must also meet GE Aerospace Tuition Refund Program standards including maintaining a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better.
Preference will be assigned to applicants who are a Veteran or dependent of a Veteran. A Dependent of a Veteran is defined as a spouse, son, daughter, stepchild, legally adopted child, or foster child that has been placed by a government agency.
