Undergraduate Research is a cornerstone of the student experience. The research skills students gain are critical components of their Xavier education and provide a foundation for success in their chosen careers.
The Undergraduate Research Program at Xavier consists of:
- Summer Research Program:
Each summer, Xavier undergraduates are employed as student researchers to work closely with faculty members on cutting-edge research.
- Summer Research Symposium:
Early each Fall, all student researchers come together to make presentations on the results of their summer projects.
- Student Travel Support:
Throughout the year, the program makes grants to help support travel to professional conferences for students to present their research and creative works. In this effort, the UR program frequently arranges and funds travel to the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
- Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creativity:
Towards the end of each Spring, the entire Xavier community comes together to celebrate the achievements of its students. Research talks and posters and exhibits of creative works are on display whether they result from work study, summer research, capstone experiences, etc. The Celebration also provides an opportunity to honor the recipient of the Undergraduate Student Researcher of the Year Award.
- Big East Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium:
A research showcase where five undergraduate research projects from each Big East university compete for honors at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event is held in conjunction with the Big East Men's Basketball Championship with all participating student researchers attending the championship game and winners being acknowledge on the court during a stoppage in play.
