Support for Undergraduate Travel for Research and Creative Activities

At any time during the year faculty mentors can apply for funds to support the travel needs of their undergraduate scholars. Each student may be awarded a maximum of $350 each year. Funds can be used to support travel to complete or present scholarship. If a faculty chaperone is traveling for the sole purpose of supporting students, then this fund can support their travel expenses as well. Please submit this form to apply for support. Faculty travel for faculty scholarship is supported at the college level outside of the Undergraduate Research program.

Big East Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium

Five undergraduate research projects are chosen each year to represent Xavier at the Big East Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium in Madison Square Garden on the day of the Big East basketball championship game. Travel to New York City and accommodation for the weekend are paid by the university. Students, if you have completed a project and would like to represent your College at this prestigious showcase of undergraduate research, reach out to your research mentor and ask them to nominate you. Each college selects the very best projects to represent them at this event.

Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

Late each spring semester this on campus event showcases all of the amazing work that undergraduates have contributed to each year. Students can present posters or oral talks. There is no fee to participate. Eligible submissions include artwork, critical analyses, research projects, and anything a faculty mentor deems appropriate for their discipline.

Summer Research at Xavier

Each summer undergraduate students can apply to work with faculty to produce novel scholarship in their disciplines. Students, if you are interested in this opportunity, contact a faculty member that you would like to work with. Faculty submit proposals and then hire students part-time or full-time for ten weeks during the summer. Start dates are flexible, and remote projects may be available for students and faculty not on campus over the summer. Students and their faculty mentors receive salaries/stipends. Student participants present their summer work at the annual Summer Research Symposium, where students present oral talks describing their work individually or in groups. Funding for these experiences comes almost entirely from donors, and there is more demand than we can supply. If you are able to contribute to financially supporting these transformative experiences, please contact Kat Morris, Director of Undergraduate Research.

Nominations for Student Researcher and Faculty Mentor of the Year

Each year the undergraduate research community acknowledges the excellent work and mentoring taking place by naming a Student Researcher of the Year and a Faculty Mentor of the Year. Participants from any college may be nominated. Winners will be selected by the Undergraduate Research Advisory Board.
