Before Ignatius was a saint, he was a man of great desire. This opening lecture explores the role of desire in the spiritual life grounded in the Ignatian tradition.

Matthew Dunch, S.J.
Visiting Professor, Philosophy

Matther Dunch, S.J. received his M.A. degree from Loyola University Chicago. He began his career at Xavier in 2011 as a Visiting Professor for Philosophy. Before he came to Xavier, Dunch taught in multiple levels of grade school, was a chaplain for both a prison and hospital, and a live-in caretaker for the mentally disabled. Dunch became a Jesuit in 2006.

Tom Merrill is Chair of the Department of Music and Theater and Assistant to the Dean for the Arts at Xavier University. He conducts the Xavier University Edgecliff Vocal Ensemble. He is the Director of Music at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati and serves as the President of the American Choral Directors Association Central Division.
