Faculty Development

Responsibilities of the Faculty Development Committee

Leaves and Summer Fellowships

The Faculty Development Committee will review all faculty development leaves and summer fellowship applications as well as applications for the Jesuit Faculty Fellowship, and the Chair, together with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, will submit the acceptable proposals to the Provost and CAO. The Committee will indicate to the Provost and CAO its own judgment regarding priority among the proposals it submits.

The Provost and CAO will have the final voice in approving proposals for funding.

Wheeler Awards

The Faculty Development Committee will meet formally each year to review proposals. The Chair, together with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, will recommend projects for the Wheeler Awards to the Provost and CAO, who will have the final voice in approving projects. The Faculty Development Committee will be informed of the recipients of the awards.

In March, the Committee will consider proposals for projects that will be initiated during the following twelve-month period. In an exceptional circumstance and at the request of the Provost and CAO, the Committee will meet to review a proposal that requires immediate action.

Each year in January, the Faculty Development Committee will establish and communicate to eligible persons the deadlines for the submission of proposals for the forthcoming academic year (typically late-February or early March).

Wheeler Award Guidelines

Faculty Development Committee members applying for a Faculty Development Award (e.g. Wheeler, Summer Fellowship, or Faculty Development Research leave), must recuse themselves from ALL discussions pertaining to that award category.
