Practicum

The CJUS 491: Practicum/Ethics in Criminal Justice course addresses the question “what comes after graduation?” The practicum adds a multi-faceted career dimension for the criminal justice student, which includes expanded internship/co-op possibilities; with concentrations in applied fields of legal studies, law enforcement, corrections and management and administration; and weekly classroom instruction addressing criminal justice ethics and employment opportunities.

The practicum requirement is 150 hours with a criminal justice-related organization/agency. The instructor of CJUS 491 will make the final determination of a practicum placement meeting the definition of a criminal justice-related placement.

The student is responsible for finding field placement in the practicum course. The Criminal Justice Department will assist in this process. Faculty can guide students with networking contacts, establishing ongoing relationships with criminal justice organizations interested in hiring students for practicums (e.g., Hamilton County Juvenile Court). Students can be placed in paid or unpaid practicums.
