Senior Spotlight: Joey Sybert

|

Senior Joey Sybert chose to study at Xavier to explore experiences beyond his home state of Maryland. The community around Xavier and the close-knit feeling on the small campus sealed the deal for him.

Joey knew he wanted to do something in the realm of media, and his strong interest in social media led him to declare a digital media major. “Digital media encompasses the relationships humans have with technology and the internet,” Joey explained. He added that he’s really interested in how the field is ever-changing, and how you can never really know what’s going to be the newest “trendy” thing until it happens. Being able to adapt to these constant changes is the biggest takeaway he’s had from his classes.

During his senior year, Joey had an internship with the Office of Marketing and Communications at Xavier. He enjoyed this role which provided opportunities to create content for Xavier’s social media pages, as well as review and track media analytics.

If Joey were to speak with a student considering a Communication major, he would tell them to “go for it, because it covers a lot of different topics.”

After graduation, Joey plans to return to Maryland to pursue a career in sports marketing, where he will continue to hone his skills in content strategy and digital content development. Joey adds that he is looking forward to applying the experiences and knowledge he has gained so far because, "I want to use this expertise to help build connections with audiences in meaningful ways."
