Senior Spotlight: Mary Leydon

|

No matter where senior Mary Leydon ended up at college, she knew she would leave with a solid degree, a quality education, and great friends.

After getting into Xavier, Mary knew that it would provide her everything she needed to succeed, the flourishing basketball program being a plus. “It was just a very welcoming and happy environment,” she recalled when talking about the first time she toured Xavier. After beginning college undecided on her major, Mary spent the next two school years diving into classes that matched her personal interests.

Mary eventually declared a Public Relations major, along with Political Communication and Italian as minors. After an internship in marketing with Harman International, Mary decided to add a major in Advertising.

The summer internship gave Mary the opportunity to work closely with the brand JBL in developing content and working with paid media. She was also worked on marketing projects for musicians The Kid LAROI and Doja Cat.

For someone considering a Communications major, Mary would advise them to be excited about learning and to crave to want to learn more. She also stresses the importance of recognizing the dedication Xavier’s professors have to their students, not just as teachers, but as mentors too. “You’re not just another student to them, they want you to succeed,” Mary explained.
