Communication: The Roadmap to Happiness

|

Switching to the communication studies major was the best college decision I have ever made.

Being, a transfer student to Xavier I thought I needed to have it all figured out when I arrived. But, by my second year on campus and my millionth political science class, I realized I was at a loss for what direction I wanted my life to take. Sitting down with the Career Development Office I learned that I wanted a career that allowed me to be in more direct contact with people. So it only seemed fitting to try communication classes. This is when my life was forever changed.

I started to have fun as a student-class didn't seem like work. The professors were more focused on the communication of life and how people interacted with each other rather than facts and figures.

Learning became honest and organic. I walked away from my classes knowing that I would see an example of what we learned seconds after class was over. I became more aware of my surroundings, how I spoke to people, how people spoke to me. Every act of communication started to speak volumes to me.

Excited to learn, I started doing better in the classroom and feeling better as a person. Communication studies has helped me in all of my relationships between me and my family, friends, co-workers.

This is what happens when students find their passion and professors are there to support them in the kind of learning that is life-changing. I am truly thankful I found the Comm Studies program. Here, I found the confidence to engage and listen to what people have to say and became a better person.
